Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) in Las Vegas

To breathe is to live. That was probably the idea behind the team that created the Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT). This advanced therapy enables your tissues to heal with the help of a decent amount of pure oxygen. At Desert Oasis, we recognize the importance of various options that help you recover and heal. Proud to offer Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy in Las Vegas, we aim to merge the best conventional and complementary therapies to empower you on your journey to optimal health.

What is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)?

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy uses 100% oxygen in a pressurized chamber to promote wound healing. By dissolving oxygen in your blood, the supply to damaged tissues is improved, which stimulates the formation of new blood vessels and accelerates the healing process. This treatment needs commitment from the patient, with two-hour sessions, five days a week, for one month.

HBOT therapy positions itself as a good option to treat diseases such as Diabetes, which affects the blood vessels and nerves, making it difficult to deliver oxygen to the tissues. This makes wounds difficult to heal and contributes to the development of chronic injuries.

The progress in hyperbaric oxygen therapy is measured quantitatively through the reduction in wound size. Patients are expected to notice significant improvements after approximately three weeks of treatment.

Should I Have a Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy?

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is known for treating diving injuries and aiding chronic wound healing. However, it’s also celebrated as a safe and effective option for a variety of acute and chronic conditions, including diabetic foot ulcers and radiation injuries. In fact, HBOT therapy has been shown to be beneficial for treating the following conditions:

Wound and Tissue Damage Conditions

  • Diabetic wounds of the lower extremities (e.g., foot wounds)
  • Compromised skin grafts/skin flaps
  • Acute peripheral arterial insufficiency (which can lead to ulcers and other non-healing wounds)
  • Soft tissue radionecrosis (tissue damage caused by radiation)
  • Osteoradionecrosis (bone injury caused by radiation)

Trauma-Related Conditions

  • Acute traumatic peripheral ischemia (tissue injury to an extremity caused by a lack or loss of blood flow)
  • Crush injuries/suturing of severed limbs
  • Progressive necrotizing infections (e.g., necrotizing fasciitis, death of tissue caused by a fast-spreading bacterial infection)
  • Infections and Bacterial-Related Conditions
  • Chronic refractory osteomyelitis (bone infection)
  • Gas gangrene/myonecrosis (bacterial infection)
  • Actinomycosis (a rare bacterial infection that causes sores and abscesses)

Circulatory and Gas-Related Conditions

  • Gas embolism/air embolism (blockage of blood supply to a vital organ)
  • Carbon monoxide intoxication/poisoning
  • Cyanide poisoning
  • Decompression illness

How Is The Procedure of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy? (HBOT)

During the procedure, we put you in a special hyperbaric chamber where you will be resting comfortably during the treatment. Once the door is sealed, the room will be filled with oxygen while the pressure will start to increase. During this process, you may feel your ears a little bit clogged or pop, such as when you travel in an airplane or through the mountains. You can do some yawning to attenuate these effects through the therapy.

During the entire process, your doctor will be at your side, ready to intervene in case of any inconvenience related to your well-being. They might give you a break during the therapy to breathe normal air and check on you.

Once the therapy is over, the doctor will review your vital signs, check your blood pressure and pulse, and measure your blood sugar levels to ensure everything is in order. If the doctor considers that you’re ready, you can get back on track with your routine without needing a family member or friend.
