Medical science has long recognized that oxygen is necessary for life and proper healing. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) applies this knowledge in a unique treatment that harnesses the power of oxygen to stimulate the body’s own natural healing ability. We have offered HBOT for over 20 years, starting in 2001 as the first “free-standing” or non-hospital affiliated HBOT facility in Southern Nevada.

What Is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)?

“Hyper” means increased and “baric” means pressure. During HBOT the client breathes 100% medical grade oxygen while resting comfortably in a specially designed chamber in which the ambient pressure has been increased. The entire body is super-saturated with healing, life-giving oxygen. Blood oxygen levels increases 10 to 15 times higher than normal. Oxygen is infused into all other body fluids and tissues as well, including the brain, bone marrow and lymph.

Worldwide research confirms that HBOT provides the following benefits:

  • Promotes the growth of new blood vessels
  • Regenerates diseased or damaged tissue
  • Helps the body fight infections
  • Stimulates nerve and brain cell recovery
  • Reduces fatigue from chronic conditions
  • Neutralizes & detoxifies toxic substances
  • Speeds recovery from surgical procedures including plastic and elective surgeries.

What Are Treatments Like?

HBOT is safe, painless and non-invasive. We use the Sechrist 3300H monoplace (one person). Sechrist chambers are among the most sought after, high-quality chambers worldwide and are used in many hospitals. You will lie flat or up to a 45 degree angle in the chamber while the atmospheric pressure is gradually increased. The clear acrylic allows almost 360 degrees visibility, in contrast to chambers that offer only small portholes. The only discomfort you may experience is a sensation of popping or fullness in the ears as the pressure changes. During the treatment you can relax, listen to music, sleep and even watch TV.  A technician will be in the room at all times.

Treatments generally last from 60-90 minutes, depending on the condition being treated. The number of treatments needed for significant benefit also varies. For example, post-cosmetic surgery patients only need 3-5 treatments. We recommend starting with 20 treatments for neurological conditions such as stroke, head injury, or cerebral palsy. Our physician will determine what protocol is best in terms of pressure depth, length of treatment and number of treatments needed.

Note that this is a hard shell chamber, NOT a soft or inflatable hyperbaric chamber. The vast majority of medical research showing the benefits of HBOT has been done using hard chambers. We believe traditional hard chambers are the most efficacious for our clients.

HBOT Pricing

$240    60 minutes @ 1.5 ATA                                                                                            $285     60 minutes @ 2.0 ATA

$285    90 minutes @ 1.5 ATA                                                                                            $365     90 minutes @ 2.0 ATA

Pricing is dependent on level of pressure and amount of time. Pressure is measured in atmospheres absolute (ATA).  Normal atmospheric pressure outside the chamber is 1.0 ATA.  1.5 ATA in the chamber means the pressure has been increased 1.5 times higher than normal pressure. 2.0 ATA is twice normal pressure. Higher pressure allows for greater oxygen uptake, however higher ATA is not always recommended. More” in terms of more pressure and/or more time is not always better!  For example, brain conditions are generally treated at less than 2.0 ATA.

Conditions Treated By HBOT

HBOT is not new. It has been used over the past century primarily to treat divers stricken with decompression illness (the bends). Modern medicine has expanded the use of HBOT to other conditions which are caused or complicated by hypoxia (insufficient oxygen). In most cases it is used as an adjunctive therapy in an overall medical treatment protocol.

“Indicated” Conditions: HBOT has been approved by the FDA and may be reimbursed by Medicare and some insurance companies for these diagnoses:

  • Non-healing or problem wounds
  • Air or gas embolism
  • Exceptional blood loss anemia
  • Carbon monoxide poisoning
  • Thermal burns
  • Gas gangrene
  • Crush injuries and limb salvage
  • Osteomyelitis (bone infection)
  • Intracranial abscess
  • Radiation tissue necrosis
  • Compromised skin grafts and flaps
  • Necrotizing soft-tissue infections
  • Peripheral arterial insufficiency

“Investigational” Conditions: A growing number of physicians are also achieving success with HBOT for conditions that are classified as “experimental” or “investigational.” At Desert Oasis Clinic, we treat these as well.

  • Post-stroke rehabilitation
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Traumatic brain injury
  • Near drowning
  • Peripheral neuropathy
  • Peripheral vascular disease
  • Diabetic neuropathy and retinopathy
  • Non-union of bone fractures
  • Sports injuries
  • Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
  • Post-traumatic injury
  • …And many more

Please Note That A Consultation With The Doctor Is Required Before Starting HBOT.
